Required CE Hours for Renewal
Llife, Accident & Health or Sickness, Property, Casualty or Personal lines
- 24 hours (including 3 hours in ethics) of courses approved for the license and lines held by the producer will satisfy the requirement.
- *Insurance producers with the lines of Property, Casualty or Personal lines must include three (3) hours of education in Flood as part of the 24-hour requirement.
Bail Bonds
- 12 hours of courses approved specifically for bail bonds will satisfy the continuing education requirement to renew bail bond authority.
- *Effective with renewals filed on or after August 1, 2020, producers licensed for bail must include six (6) hours on the topic of bail enforcement.
Title
- 12 hours of courses approved specifically for title insurance will satisfy the continuing education requirement to renew title authority.
- *Effective with renewals of 2015, producers licensed for title must include two (2) hours on the topic of consumer financial protection as part of the 12-hour requirement.
Adjusters (Claims and Public)
- 24 hours (including 3 hours in ethics) of courses approved for adjuster continuing education will satisfy the requirement to renew the license.
Multiple Licenses
- Producers who are licensed for both life/heath and property/lines may take any combination of life/health or property/casualty approved courses.
- Licensees who hold any combination of insurance producer, adjuster, or insurance consultant licenses may receive credit applied to all license types for which the course is approved by the commissioner.

Special Training/Education Requirements (LTC, Flood, Ethics, others)
Long-Term Care Training
- An individual producer may not sell, solicit or negotiate long-term care insurance unless the individual has complied with the long-term care training requirements. This requirement is separate and distinct from the continuing education requirements for a licensee.
- In addition to the 8-hour initial training, an individual engaged in the sale, solicitation or negotiation of long-term care insurance must complete no less than 4 hours of training every 2 years (every renewal period) in order to continue to engage in that business,

Annuity Training
- Resident and Non-Resident
- Individual producers engaged in the sale of annuity products are required to complete a one-time four (4) hour training course. This requirement is separate and distinct from the continuing education requirements. The requirement applies to all types of annuity products.
- A producer who satisfied a similar annuity training requirement for another state will be considered to have satisfied Louisiana’s requirement.

Flood Training
- Must complete three (3) hours of education in Flood as part of the 24-hour requirement.

Pet Insurance Training
- Effective January 1, 2024, Louisiana adopted the Pet Insurance Model Act with Act 94 of the 2023 Regular Legislative Session. Act 94 requires producers to receive training prior selling a pet insurance product.
- A producer who satisfied a similar pet insurance training requirement for another state will be considered to have satisfied Louisiana’s requirement.

Exemptions
- The requirement for the completion of continuing education shall not apply to the following:
- Non-Resident
- Licensees who have met the continuing education requirements in their home state. If a producer or adjuster is not required to take continuing education in his home state that producer or adjuster is not required to submit continuing education credits to renew his Louisiana license.
- New Resident Claims Adjuster
- An individual renewing a resident claims adjuster license for the first time after initial issuance. Thereafter the licensee shall be subject to all applicable continuing education requirements.
- New Public Adjuster
- An individual renewing a public adjuster license within one year of initial issuance.
- Louisiana law provides for exemption or waiver of continuing education requirements for insurance producers and adjusters in certain circumstances.
- Age 65 Exemption
- Insurance producers only (not claims adjusters) may request an exemption from continuing education requirements if the producer meets these criteria:
- is age 65
- has a minimum of 15 years experience as a licensed producer
- is either (a) no longer actively engaged in the business of insurance or is (b) engaged in the business of insurance and is appointed by at least one Louisiana licensed insurance company.
- This exemption is NOT available for an insurance adjuster in Louisiana.
- Military Service Waiver
- A licensed producer or adjuster who is prevented from meeting the continuing education requirements for renewal of their producer or adjuster license due to military service may request a waiver of those requirements and renewal of the license.
- Medical Waiver
- A licensed producer or adjuster who is prevented from meeting the continuing education requirements for renewal of his producer or adjuster license due to a medical condition or injury may request a waiver of those requirements and renewal of the license.

License Term
- The renewal period is the two (2) years immediately preceding expiration of a producer or adjuster license.
- Licenses renew on the last day of the birth month with the license number determining the renewal year.
- Licenses that end in an even number renew in even-numbered years and licenses that end in an odd number renew in odd-numbered years.

- Final exams do not need to be monitored.

- Exams require a passing score of 70% or better.

Certificate of Completion
To get your certificate of completion, log in to our website using your username and password. Then, look at the menu on the left and find "Course History." Your course history will list the courses you passed or failed. If you passed a course, you'll see a "Print certificate" button on the right, allowing you to print your certificate for your records.

How are Hours Reported
We report your credits to the LDI, within one business day (except holidays, reporting will be done on next business day). The department receives the credits and recognizes the date you passed/completed the exam as the date of completion. It is not based upon the day we report the hours to them.

Course Repetition
A continuing education course may not be repeated for credit unless a minimum of 24 months have passed between course completions. Be aware of duplicate courses when making choices for your continuing education hours.

Carry-over Hours
An insurance producer licensed for one or more of the lines of life, accident and health or sickness, property, casualty, or personal lines may apply up to 10 hours of approved instruction or self-study accumulated but not used for renewal during one renewal period to the continuing education requirements for the next renewal period.
